Cascade of Flowers

Cascade skirt

Cascade skirt

After finally finishing my Emery dress I realized that I hadn’t made a woven project in a long time (those easy to fit knits are just too tempting). So I looked at my pattern collection on Pinterest searching for something springy to sew and I decided on another Cascade skirt. I made my first Cascade skirt out of some Tula Pink voile and while I like the fabric and wore the skirt a decent amount last summer I just did not love the shade of yellow, so I figured I should pick some fabric that would feel more me. I decided to use the Amy Butler Hapi voile that I had been hoarding since last spring. I’m pretty sure I originally bought this fabric to make a Cascade skirt, but then was afraid it would be too shear and so the fabric sat untouched. I figured if the skirt ended up too sheer I would figure out some way to add a lining later, but I really didn’t want to have to line the skirt. I cut out a straight size xs. I had to cut the skirt out on the floor since the pieces were too large to cut on my cutting table.

The skirt sewed up quickly, except for the rolled hem. I used my rolled hem foot and decided to just go for it instead of trying to practice first (the only other time I have used the foot is when making my first Cascade). I think my hem came out pretty good except for one spot, but I wasn’t bothered enough to take it out and start over.

I really like the skirt and think it will be a really good summer staple and as long as I don’t wear dark colored underpants I think I can get away with not lining the skirt.

  1. I’m sure you will enjoy wearing it during the summer. It’s such a great print and so is your rolled hem. I don’t have this pattern but I have seen so many nice versions of it, I may end up buying it.
